നാലു വർഷം കൊണ്ട് ഓണേഴ്സ് നേടാം. മൂന്നു വർഷം കൊണ്ട് പൂർത്തിയാക്കാൻ ഉദ്ദേശിക്കുന്നവർക്ക് ഡിഗ്രിയും സ്വന്തമാവും. ഇത് അഭിരുചിക്കും താത്പര്യത്തിനും അനുസരിച്ച് തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കാം.
എത്ര വർഷം പഠിക്കുന്നു എന്നതല്ല, എത്ര കെഡിറ്റ് നേടി എന്നതാവും സർട്ടിഫിക്കറ്റിലെ മാനദണ്ഡം
നാലുവർഷത്തെ ഓണേഴ്സ് ബിരുദം മൂന്നര വർഷത്തിനുള്ളിൽ നേടാനുള്ള ‘ഫാസ്റ്റ് ട്രാക്ക് പഠനസംവിധാനം’ പുതിയ പാഠ്യപദ്ധതിയിലുണ്ടാവും. നാലുവർഷബിരുദം മിടുക്കരായ വിദ്യാർഥികൾക്ക് രണ്ടരവർഷത്തിനുള്ളിൽ തീർത്ത് ബിരുദം നേടാം.
കോഴ്‌സിന്റെ കാലാവധിക്കുപകരം, വിദ്യാർഥി നിശ്ചിതക്രെഡിറ്റ് നേടലാണ് മുഖ്യം. മൂന്നുവർഷം കഴിഞ്ഞാൽ ബിരുദവും നാലുവർഷം കഴിഞ്ഞാൽ ഓണേഴ്‌സും. വിദ്യാർഥിക്ക് ഇഷ്ടമനുസരിച്ച് കോഴ്സുകൾ തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കാൻ ‘കോഴ്‌സ് ബാസ്‌കറ്റ്’ സംവിധാനവും ഉണ്ടാവും.
ഡിഗ്രിക്ക് ആറുസെമസ്റ്ററും 133 ക്രെഡിറ്റും ഓണേഴ്‌സിന് എട്ടു സെമസ്റ്ററും 177 ക്രെഡിറ്റും ആയിരിക്കും.
ഒരു സെമസ്റ്ററിൽ കുറഞ്ഞത് 16 ക്രെഡിറ്റ് നേടണം. പരമാവധി 30 വരെ ക്രെഡിറ്റ് നേടാം. പുറത്തുനിന്നുള്ള പഠനം വഴിയോ ഓൺലൈൻ കോഴ്‌സിലൂടെയോ ഇതു നേടാനും തടസ്സമില്ല.
ബിരുദത്തിന് 133 ക്രെഡിറ്റ് മതിയാവും എന്നതിനാൽ 30 ക്രെഡിറ്റ് വീതം അഞ്ചു സെമസ്റ്റർ രണ്ടര വർഷത്തിനുള്ളിൽ നേടി പൂർത്തിയാക്കിയാൽ വിദ്യാർഥിക്ക് ബിരുദം സ്വന്തമാക്കും. സമാനമായി ഓണേഴ്സ് ഡിഗ്രിയും മൂന്നരവർഷത്തിനുള്ളിൽ പൂർത്തിയാക്കാം.
സമ്മർ വെക്കേഷൻ വെറുതെ കളയണ്ട
വേനലവധിക്കാലത്ത് പ്രത്യേകം കോഴ്സുകൾ പഠിക്കാവുന്ന സമ്മർ ഫാസ്റ്റ് ട്രാക്ക് സംവിധാനമാണ് വിദ്യാർഥികൾക്ക് പ്രയോജനപ്പെടുക. ഇതുവഴി അവധിക്കാലത്ത് രണ്ടോ മൂന്നോ കോഴ്സുകൾ പഠിക്കാം. ഒരു കോഴ്‌സിന് നാല് ക്രെഡിറ്റുണ്ടാവും. ബിരുദകാലയളവിൽ രണ്ടു വേനലവധി ഉള്ളതിനാൽ ഒരു വിദ്യാർഥിക്ക് മൂന്നു കോഴ്‌സുകൾവഴി ഈ കാലയളവിൽ 12 ക്രെഡിറ്റ് സമ്പാദിക്കാം.
ഒരു സർവകലാശാലയിൽ പഠിക്കുമ്പോൾത്തന്നെ, മറ്റു സർവകലാശാലകളിലെ കോഴ്സിനുചേരാൻ തടസ്സമില്ല. ഓൺലൈൻ കോഴ്‌സുകൾക്ക് 12 അധിക ക്രെഡിറ്റ് നൽകാനുള്ള വ്യവസ്ഥയും സഹായകരമാവും.
പുതിയ പാഠ്യപദ്ധതി നടപ്പാക്കാൻ സർവകലാശാലകളിൽ ഏകീകൃതരീതി വേണ്ടിവരും. നിലവിലെ സർവകലാശാലാ നിയമങ്ങളൊക്കെ ഭേദഗതിചെയ്യും. അധ്യയനവർഷം ആരംഭിക്കുന്നതിനുമുമ്പ് ഇതൊക്കെ പൂർത്തിയാക്കണമെന്നതാണ് സർക്കാരിനുമുന്നിലെ വെല്ലുവിളി.
ഇവയ്ക്ക് അനുസരിച്ച് കോളിജുകളിൽ അധ്യാപക പുനസംഘടന വേണ്ടി വരും. കോളിജ് അധ്യാപക നിയമനം ഇപ്പോഴും വിവാദങ്ങളിലും കോടതി വ്യവഹാരങ്ങളിലും ഒക്കെയായി അനിശ്ചിതത്വത്തിലാവുന്ന സാഹചര്യമുണ്ട്. ഇതിനിടെ പരിഷ്കാരത്തിന് ഒപ്പം കേരളത്തിലെ മുഴുവൻ അധ്യാപക നിയമനവും പി എസ് സിക്ക് വിടാൻ സർക്കാർ തയാറാവും എന്ന പ്രതീക്ഷ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
What is an Honours Degree?
An honours degree is a Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP), inspired by the NEP 2020 pattern, and is intended to be of greater quality than a regular Bachelor’s degree. The curriculum in these degrees necessitates a greater level of accomplishment while remaining at the undergraduate level. The framework allows various options of single majors, double majors, minors, multidisciplinary, ability, and skill enhancement courses to help students acquire interdisciplinary learning. Moreover, the programme also promises a good blend of immersive education, research, and community engagement. In addition, opportunities for semester exchange programmes with foreign universities will expose students to global practices and make them global citizens.
An Honours degree based on the NEP 2020 framework allows you to gain talents that you might otherwise lose out on if you merely completed an undergraduate degree. The ability to critically analyze issues, devise solutions, and troubleshoot lends itself to professional and research jobs.

How is it different from a standard degree?
Almost every university in the world offers a bachelor’s degree. The NEP transforms the educational landscape for the competence and skills required in the 21st century.
It provides students with more study possibilities in a specific field of study. After completing their schooling, one can seek and obtain a career in their field of interest.
A higher, more professional level of research is required throughout an honours degree, and it varies from a non-honours degree in the way knowledge is acquired each year. It would also necessitate more papers and prerequisites than a non-honours degree, whether completed after your undergraduate courses or integrated into them.
In the Four Year Undergraduate Honours Degree as per the NEP framework, there will be an option to exit with a Certificate on successfully completing above mentioned credits and four additional vocational credits. There will also be an option to exit with a Diploma on successful completion of the credits and four additional vocational credits. Subsequently, one can exit with a UG Degree after completing the prescribed credits. Finally, students will be awarded a UG Degree with Honours/ Research on completing the suggested credits.
These are some of the critical differences between a Honours and a normal bachelor’s degree:
- Ordinary degrees are substantially less complicated to get than honours degrees.
- Compared to the regular one, students must pass extra papers to obtain their honours degree.
- When compared to regular degrees, honours degrees have a higher academic standing.
Another significant distinction is that with an honours degree, you can specialize in one or two areas, resulting in a unique, integrated curriculum instead of a non-honours degree where you study each subject individually. It might also be your ticket to a Master’s Research or Doctorate.
